Tell us a little about yourself

I’m a Mobile Brand Specialist. I graduated from UCT with a Business Science degree, whilst moonlighting as an actress during my studies. I interned and learnt the digital ropes at Stonewall+ (now Native) and then jumped headfirst into the start-up life at Motribe. I’ve developed a fierce love for mobile, as well as an appreciation for how it’s helping transform the emerging African markets and their economies. I like blogging , instagramming and adding clutter to the bright, shiny Internet … and I still dream of winning an Oscar 😉

When and how did your passion for technology begin?

I can’t pinpoint it to be honest. I guess it all started back in the 90’s with a Nintendo console and a certain game involving an Italian plumber. Jokes aside, I am passionate about technology, grateful for the opportunities it has afforded me and excited about each advancement we make in this space. I fondly remember the sound of the old dial-up modems, my exceptionally glittery MySpace page, my first experience on Facebook, my very first Nokia and the first time I saw an iPhone.

What advice do you have for young girls who are interested in technology and want to explore a career in this industry?

Get an internship and soak up every single bit of knowledge you can. An Internship is a great way to test to see if the industry really is for you. Yes, you’ll do some lame things like coffee- runs, but you’ll also learn from some of the brightest minds in the business. Read. Read sites like Mashable, VentureBeat and Inc every day. We need more women in this space, so sign up and blaze some trails.
