Tell us more about yourself

I’m a Computer Systems graduate with Data Analysis experience as my first role after completing my studies.  Now 2.5 years after graduating, I am an Operations Analyst on Projects at DataOrbis, a company that provides Business Intelligence solutions to the FMCG industry.  I also tutor Maths on Saturdays to Grade 8 students at a local school in my area and I’m part of the Silicon Cape Women Subcommittee. Playing scrabble is my favorite pass time and I make it my mission to follow multiple discussions around technology, women in technology, big data, business analysis and the likes whilst attending events and meet ups around those topics as well as writing about them on my blog.

When and how did your passion for technology begin?

This began during my studies.  Before I wasn’t too aware what I was getting myself into, but as the years progressed in my studies, light bulbs flashed and I got excited about the prospects and opportunities available through technology.  The Software Engineering course showed this, but the Artificial Intelligence course totally blew my mind! I thoroughly enjoyed it.

What advice do you have for young girls?

The internet is at your fingertips, do research for there is much to explore and don’t be afraid to ask people questions, people around you or even those that are not.  With Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and email you can connect with anyone so utilize those platforms.
